Robert Lepage’s ‘Ring des Nibelungen’ at the Met: Alberich transforms himself into a dragon (Photo: Ken Howard/Metropolitan Opera)

Robert Lepage is big on illusion. He’s a director, actor, playwright and filmmaker from Quebec. He’s directed operas, puppet theater and even two Cirque du Soleil productions.

A few years ago, New York’s Metropolitan Opera asked Lepage to design and direct a new production of Richard Wagner’s four-part opera, “The Ring of the Nibelung.” It turned out to be the most ambitious, expensive and perhaps riskiest production the Met has ever put on. Studio 360 has redesigned the teacher. Gone are apples and chalkboards — in comes a whole new look. More and listen here.

Studio 360 recruited design firm Hyperakt to redesign the image of teachers. The agency said it was important to show that, “teachers weren’t just dictators of knowledge, but as guides they help students connect the dots.”

Artisans hand craft mridangums — drums used in Indian classical music.

In Chennai, India, it’s what’s called “the December Season”. It’s a time when the city comes alive with thousands of concerts featuring Carnatic music, the classical music of South India. People from around the world flock there through January to hear it live.
