British dog breeds, such as the English Setter, are being pushed towards extinction by the growing popularity of more exotic dogs such as Chihuahuas, new figures suggest. The Otterhound is another at-risk breed. Caroline Kisko of the UK Kennel Club says celebrity culture is partly to blame. “Paris Hilton walks around with a Chihuahua in her purse, and everybody thinks that’s a jolly good thing to do, and it’s not a reason to buy a dog at all.”
